GRACE and other gods

Hello, Again,

So here I am thinking about how I am not really doing this blog thing today. I think that instead of this being something I plan to do, I need to just sit down and put my thoughts down. Kind of like a normal journal, just with more eyes viewing it.

So, yesterday and today we were home from school with more snow days. It is amazing! Today I don't think I even saw any snow at all, but the schools were closed. We had to go to the eye Dr. where I had plenty of time to take a look at my new Bible study guide. It is called "No Other gods.... confronting our modern-day idols". As I opened it and started through the intro I thought...." I don't think I have any idols, I am and have really been working on my priorities these past few months", but soon into the first days "stuff" I found that maybe an idol is not exactly what I thought it was.

2 Kings 17:33 (New International Version)

33 They worshiped the LORD, but they also served their own gods in accordance with the customs of the nations from which they had been brought.

It seems that from way back "we" have worshiped the one true God, and also served other gods. One statement stuck out more than the rest:

"Our false gods have taken up our most treasured spaces, leaving little room for God to show Himself strong on our behalf." So I know what my professed God is...the Lord, but what and who are my functional gods? My personal pharaohs? I think I am on a journey to find out.

This also made me think about Jesus. After just ending a study on Grace, my heart just hurt to read about other gods. Conviction is from the Holy Spirit, condemnation is from Satan. Oh, how He loves me to put up with me. On Monday I was discussing how a woman of Grace is giving, wise, humble, and at peace resting in God. Grace should be so a part of my life that I can't keep it inside just because of His grace for me in me. It's all good; it's His character spilling out. And then.....

Today I am reading about the "other gods". I can't even keep the first commandment, but you know what? He loves me anyway, because of one thing...GRACE. It is so big that I can study it for 7 weeks and still not get it. I won't get it until I walk through the pearly gates arm in arm with my Savior.

So for now, I am learning about His character more day by day and loving Him more second by second. He is in me and I desire to be Holy because He is Holy. Thank GOODNESS for His all sufficient, all abundant, never ending, precious always present GRACE!

A lesson of how not to be.....

This morning we got up.... let me rephrase that. Tucker got up at 6AM and then "gradually" everyone else was up within about 15 minutes. :) Gotta love him. I, however, threw them some muffins and crawled back into my warm bed while they munched and watched cartoons.

After waking up Saturday AM to 4-6" of snow on the ground, I was not sure that I wanted to venture out this morning to church because of the roads. So, I messed around and got a real breakfast fixed and showered. About 9:30 the doorbell rang. It was a race to see who could get there the fastest. When we opened the door there was an Asian couple standing there with a hand full of literature. They looked quite puzzled when they saw me and the kids. They asked if my last name was "Kim". They explained that they were Jehovah Witnesses. (How did they find me.... the phone book?)

After I told them that there was not a Korean person living here, they politely left and went on there way. They told me that they were sorry they bothered me.

As a general rule, I do not like it when Jehovah Witnesses come to my door except for when they take me up on my offer to match them minute by minute with my sharing of what I believe. :) (big surprise...I am sure) That usually makes them turn right around. I did not even do that or mention anything this morning. Today, however, I was a little bit sad that these people just left without mentioning anything about their beliefs, without handing out any "Watchtower" or whatever. They just left. Could it be that they decided my soul did not matter if I was not of their kind? I hope not.

So, this brings me to my point. Do I do that? Do I turn around and run when someone does not meet my criteria for what I am looking for in a witnessee? I would hope not, but then again do I judge people by their appearance or their tongue before I even open my mouth about our precious Lord? I would jump at saying "NO", but is that the truth? I think that my heart's intent is for Christ to spill out on everyone that I come into contact with day by day, but that is also a test. I will have to put this into action this week.

It may be the person at the grocery store that I may never think to even make eye contact with that truly needs to see the Light. Maybe just a pleasant smile. My goal is to go into the world this week and find someone each day that I might have ignored yesterday if it had not been for that doorbell ring.

I encourage you to do the same. I am not going to beat anyone with my Bible... so don't worry.

So.... did those two not witness to me because I am a whitey or because they did not want me in their eternity? Maybe there is some other reason. Big question. By the way they definitely spoke English.

Red and Yellow, Black and White we are precious in His sight! Jesus loves the little children of the world....
Shine!

It actually blew me away to think that

February 12th.... Let it SNOW! Let it SNOW! Let it SNOW!

Wednesday, February 10, 2010

So.... as you see. No posting here. My friend, I mentioned before, just texted me for the address to this blog. Is that an accountability partner? God sure knows how to put them in my life to keep me right. :) Thanks, so much JC!

So, the real purpose of this blog is for me to share what our gracious Lord is doing in me and for me day by day. From the name of it, I hope, if you know me, you know my heart's desire already. He is it. That's all, and of course my kids that He soooo graciously has allowed me to borrow for a short time here on this earth. :)

So what is He up to these days? He is showing me that I do not fit into a box. I am made in His image and He is the only One that knows what is going on with me. Thank goodness someone knows. He alone is forming me day by day to be who He is designing me to be. Through good times and bad He is making me "the me He intends for me to be". I know that is why we find throughout the Bible the statement to give thanks in all things, that all things work for the good to those who love Him, and this encouragement from Him just continues through His Word.

I so enjoy how He reminds me of just how special each of us are when He so intricately weaves together things in our lives that we would like to think are hap-circumstances. Like how do you explain doing a Bible study titled 1John, hearing a sermon at not one, but two different churches using 1John, opening a different devotional on 1John, another Bible study with scripture readings out of 1John, having assigned verses to memorize from 1John, going to a youth function and hearing about 1John, listening to the radio and, of course, there is 1John within about a 3 week period of time? That right there, my friend, is God in His utmost awesomeness blowing my socks right off. I LOVE it! Apparently He wants me to pay attention to ..... :)

All the "stuff" is there to grow us. It's grace that gets us through. All sufficient grace that lifts us up and delivers. His super glue on 1John in my life is that grace for me right now. He does it for each of us all the time. So open your eyes and see the Light.... soak It in... and allow Him to be the light in you to shine in our dark world.

Be Light and....
SHINE!

Walking in the light
1John 1:5-2:14
5This is the message we have heard from him and declare to you: God is light; in him there is no darkness at all. 6If we claim to have fellowship with him yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live by the truth. 7But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from allb]" style="font-size: 0.75em; line-height: 0.5em; ">[b] sin.

8If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. 9If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. 10If we claim we have not sinned, we make him out to be a liar and his word has no place in our lives.

1 John 2

1My dear children, I write this to you so that you will not sin. But if anybody does sin, we have one who speaks to the Father in our defense—Jesus Christ, the Righteous One. 2He is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not only for ours but also forc]" style="font-size: 0.75em; line-height: 0.5em; ">[c] the sins of the whole world.

3We know that we have come to know him if we obey his commands. 4The man who says, "I know him," but does not do what he commands is a liar, and the truth is not in him. 5But if anyone obeys his word, God's loved]" style="font-size: 0.75em; line-height: 0.5em; ">[d] is truly made complete in him. This is how we know we are in him:6Whoever claims to live in him must walk as Jesus did.

7Dear friends, I am not writing you a new command but an old one, which you have had since the beginning. This old command is the message you have heard. 8Yet I am writing you a new command; its truth is seen in him and you, because the darkness is passing and the true light is already shining.

9Anyone who claims to be in the light but hates his brother is still in the darkness. 10Whoever loves his brother lives in the light, and there is nothing in hime]" style="font-size: 0.75em; line-height: 0.5em; ">[e] to make him stumble. 11But whoever hates his brother is in the darkness and walks around in the darkness; he does not know where he is going, because the darkness has blinded him.
12I write to you, dear children,
because your sins have been forgiven on account of his name.
13I write to you, fathers,
because you have known him who is from the beginning.
I write to you, young men,
because you have overcome the evil one.
I write to you, dear children,
because you have known the Father.
14I write to you, fathers,
because you have known him who is from the beginning.
I write to you, young men,
because you are strong,
and the word of God lives in you,
and you have overcome the evil one.
